Heathrow Airport Information

Heathrow Airport in London is the UK’s largest and busiest airport as well as being the busiest airport in Europe and the seventh busiest in the world based on passenger traffic.

Located in the west of the city, in the London borough of Hillingdon, Heathrow hosts two runways and four operational terminal buildings. It is the primary hub for British Airways and the main operating base of Virgin Atlantic.

The busiest airport in the UK, London Heathrow occupies approximately 1,227 hectares, boasts four operating terminals, has two runways, and serves 184 destinations in 80 countries. Its passenger traffic is growing every year and is fast approaching 80 million!

Heathrow Airport has four operating terminals; Terminal 2, 3, 4 and 5 with Terminal 1 closing in 2015. Each terminal has an array of facilities to support passengers before their flight. Terminals 2 and 3 are connected and can be walked between, but terminals 4 and 5 require separate transport. For this reason, it is important to take note of which terminal you are flying from or arriving into to make sure your transport connections will go smoothly. Heathrow Airport Parking: Tips for Making the Most of Your Trip

If you're planning a trip from Heathrow Airport, one of the most important things to consider is your car parking options. With over 80 million passengers passing through Heathrow every year, finding a convenient and affordable parking spot can be a challenge. Luckily, there are plenty of parking options available to suit every need and budget.

Long Stay Car Park

If you're going away for an extended period, long stay car parks are the perfect choice. These car parks are located further away from the terminal, but they offer great value for money, with rates as low as £5.95 per day. Plus, you can take advantage of free shuttle buses that run 24/7 to get you to and from the terminal.

Valet Parking

If you're looking for a more luxurious parking option, valet parking is the way to go. With valet parking, you can simply turn up at the terminal, hand over your keys to a professional driver, and they will park your car for you. When you return, your car will be waiting for you at the terminal. This service is convenient but comes with a higher price tag.

Turning up on the day

If you're not sure when you'll be travelling, turning up on the day and paying for parking on the spot is an option. However, be prepared to pay a premium price for this convenience. Short stay car parks are the most expensive option, with rates as high as £7.20 per hour. It's best to check the availability of car parking spaces before you turn up, especially during peak travel times.

Purple Parking Park and Ride

For a hassle-free parking experience, consider Purple Parking Park and Ride. This service allows you to park your car in a secure car park and take a shuttle bus to the terminal. When you return, the shuttle bus will take you back to your car. This service is affordable and convenient, with rates starting at £4.99 per day.

Park and Ride Services

If you're on a tight budget, park and ride services are a great option. These services offer the cheapest rates, with some starting at just £3.99 per day. However, keep in mind that you'll need to factor in the time it takes to park your car and take a shuttle bus to the terminal.

Booking in Advance

Regardless of which parking option you choose, booking in advance can save you money. Many car parking providers offer discounted rates for bookings made in advance. This also guarantees you a parking spot, especially during peak travel times when parking can be scarce.

At the time of writing, Heathrow Airport offers a range of car parking options to suit every need and budget. Whether you're travelling for business or pleasure, there's a parking option that's perfect for you. By considering the options available and booking in advance, you can ensure a hassle-free start to your journey.

Heathrow Airport Parking Comparison

It is always best to compare all parking options. Comparing all options means you not only get the cheapest price for your trip, but also the car park best suited to you. In terms of the options with lots of luggage it is always Meet and Greet Service which is best suited, if you're not carrying huge amounts of luggage then a cheaper off-airport car park may the be the best car park at the best price for you - they often come with airport shuttle buses to get you between the car parks and your terminal. By comparing all types of airport car parks, from short stay to business parking, you'll be sure to get the cheapest price for what you need and be able to relax, knowing it's all pre-booked and taken care of.

The most cost-effective parking type and normally a 5 to 10 minute transfer on the shuttle. The majority of Park & Ride facilities are very secure and offer a personalised customer service. The shuttles normally run very frequently and on demand.

Heathrow Airport Long Stay Parking

Aimed at travellers who are going to be away for more than a couple of days, Heathrow Airport's own three official car parks offer excellent secure parking facilities. They operate all year round, all have been awarded the Park Mark award, and are easily accessible. The on-airport car parks serve T2, T3, T4 and T5 and offer free courtesy coach services transferring customers to and from the terminals. They are manned 24 hours and have a total amount of 5684 spaces available. Alternatives: One of the main off-airport Heathrow parking compounds is Purple Parking, based about 15 minutes away. The largest car park in the London Heathrow area, this compound has the capacity of nearly 13,000 spaces. The car park is open all year round and suitable for both long and short stays as there is no minimum stay. There are plenty of other off-airport options now, too, so you can pick one that suits you. These are usually cheaper than the on-airport options, but it may take longer to get connected to and from the terminal buildings via the transfer bus. Keep an eye out for how frequent the transfers are so you know how long you should have to wait.

If parking further away does not suit you, and you prefer your car to be parked at the airport, you can choose from a range of options that cater to all terminals. Some car parks are much closer and have shorter transfer times of just 3-5 minutes.
